June 27, 2005 at 9:49:00 PM CEST [music, links] June 27, 2005 at 9:49:00 PM CEST How fucked up is this world? Eno, presenting his forthcoming solo album at the Russian Museum's Marble Palace last Saturday, said "Bone Bomb" was inspired by a newspaper story about a Palestinian girl who becomes a suicide bomber. On the same page there was an article by a Israeli doctor who explained that wounds from the scenes of suicide bombs are often caused by tiny fragments of the bomber's bones, which embed themselves like shrapnel in the people around.
"These articles were on the same page, and I thought what a combination of tragedies these represent, so I wrote the song with words from the articles," Eno said. "Bone Bomb," sung by Aylie Cooke, is the last song on "Another Day on Earth," which has an exclusive early release date in Russia. ... Eno said he made "Bone Bomb" the final track on the album because it's emotionally brutal and he did not want to follow the style of television news where horrible news is often closed with a lighter, life-asserting story of a "cat that was saved," for example, from up a tree. "The main reason that I put it at the end of the album was because nothing can follow it," he said. (from The St. Petersburg Times. I got the link from the ILM thread on Another Day on Earth with more infos, links and impressions about Eno's new album.) link (one comment) ... comment [literature] June 27, 2005 at 1:00:00 AM CEST RR Wahrscheinlich bin ich so ziemlich der Einzige, aber ich finde das Manifest des Relevanten Realismus gut (Sekundärlink). Was sie ja by the way schon seit geraumer Zeit tut. Geistvolle spritzige Texte wie von Anne Weber beim diesjährigen Bachmannpreis sind einfach zeitgemäßer als die barock verschnörkelte Prosa um der Prosa willen eines Uwe Tellkamp. link (no comments) ... comment [tech] June 27, 2005 at 12:18:00 AM CEST I have got a new toy
I have never owned any computer by Apple. I had an Atari ST in the mid-Eighties during my studies. Apple was always too expensive for me and while I could afford an iPod today I decided to go for a different brand. Price was one reason. The giant 20 GB hard disk and the seamless Windows Explorer integration as a USB drive (Jukebox (F:)) another. It has overall and directory specific shuffle mode. You can create playlists (I haven't yet). It is extremely small and light as well with 120 g. Two things which bother me. I need a case or something to hold it. The best would be to have it hanging on my neck. I imagine some cord structure which holds the thing. Does it exist? Do I have to knot it on my own? The other thing bothering me is the earphone plug on the upper right in the image. If I stick it into the device completely I can only hear mono. It has to look out half to give me the stereo pleasure. I feel that this is not ok. There will be a loose contact soon. Should I send the thing back to Amazon in the next ten days? Or is this normal?
