Speedy delivery from London! I am listening to it for the third time now and it keeps getting better and better. Reminding me of the Kosmische Musik of Tangerine Dream and Cluster in the early 70s. Some parts are quite intimidating and almost freak me out. But it is mostly slowly flowing and ebbing music. I like to listen to it in the background when doing something else like reading or writing. Somehow the music depresses me when I focus too much on it. It feels empty and vain on its own. But the throbbing shattering very slow earth beat in Lupus definitely has a subconscious effect on me. link (7 comments) ... comment [music, albums] August 10, 2004 at 7:08:00 PM CEST Ambient 2 The three Eno CDs arrived today and I have started to listen to the first one. In terms of chronology I mean. It is 1980's The Plateaux of Mirror which is a collaboration between Harold Budd and Brian Eno. I really enjoy it. I love the slowly flowing piano (Budd, I suppose). It is not ambient in the way Music for Airports was ambient. It is less wallpaper, more impressionist, more introspective, more essential. Painting a canvas with sounds. Tranquil but moving forward with a strong drive. Someone (Eno?) is humming in a song and there is a feeling of heaven, of lightness, of floating. I have to listen to this for another ten times tonight. At least. Why didn't I know this before? link (no comments) ... comment [music, albums] August 8, 2004 at 10:36:00 PM CEST Björk - Medulla I have never been a fan of Björk. Neither her girlish voice nor her dancy music never did anything for me (actually Icelandic music in general has left me extremely cold). But listening to these three songs from her forthcoming album may well have changed my mind. Medulla is basically an a cappella album and not too far from Meredith Monk's voice experiments. Even the slightly annoying heavy breathing in two of those songs cannot destroy the charm of them. There seems to be less of her usual opera singer attitude here. And more of a genuine play with her voice. Making an album only with a human voice is a bold venture and admirable just for that. I am slightly intrigued now. link (4 comments) ... comment [music, albums] August 4, 2004 at 9:55:00 PM CEST Here Come the Warm Jets
link (6 comments) ... comment [music, albums] August 2, 2004 at 11:21:00 PM CEST one of the revolutions was a sexual revolution After having read this well-written post on Brian Eno I had to listen to Eno's first album Here Come the Warm Jets from 1973 on the way to work, on the way back from work and several times at home. What a gorgeous record! It's full of ideas, changing all the time. From bubblegum to experimental to ambientish back to pop. It's totally crazy and funny at the same time. It's not serious and not shallow. It's as magic as life can be. link (no comments) ... comment [music, albums] July 22, 2004 at 5:49:00 PM CEST "2 old friends spending some 'nice' time together" The wonderful music blog one faint deluded smile with some info on a new Fripp/Eno collab called The Equatorial Stars (with two 45s samples). The cover alone (a star map) makes me want to have this RIGHT NOW! Apparently it is a pretty calm affair without much happening. Exactly what I have been mainly looking for in music recently. link (one comment) ... comment [music, albums] July 22, 2004 at 5:47:00 PM CEST Shoplifters of the world unite Brian Eno - C or D?: " you need Low by David Bowie, Oh Jesus Christ do you need Low by David Bowie, rob a bank get Low by David Bowie, pilfer from the sunday collection plate, knock over an old lady, buy a copy of Low by David Bowie, assasinate George W for Al Queda bounty money, decapitate a government contractor... whatever you need to do, get a copy of Low by David Bowie," link (no comments) ... comment [music, albums] July 19, 2004 at 11:13:00 PM CEST Norwegen, Bergen, Grieghallen 10 CDs erstanden, die beste davon:
Die anderen 9 morgen oder irgendwann. link (no comments) ... comment [music, albums] June 30, 2004 at 7:10:00 AM CEST Fennesz - Venice: "Wonderful to fire the fuck juice to.
