[literature] February 8, 2004 at 12:06:00 PM CET Paul Auster and the unconscious The beginning of Sean O'Hagan's insightful article on meeting the author of Oracle Night in The Observer (via g3rm): A friend who lives in New York once told me about a surreal Sunday morning he had spent wandering around the Park Slope area of Brooklyn a few years ago. While searching for a place to have brunch, he noticed that there were 'all these pieces of A4-sized paper pinned to the trees and signposts'. They read, 'Where is Paul Auster?' 'It was,' my friend said, 'like wandering into the plot of a Paul Auster novel.'

... link

Perhaps this has already been said in Deutsch, but anyway - No, Seán O'Hagan of the High Llamas isn't the same as the journalist. In the Eighties, one O'Hagan wrote for the NME and the other played for Microdisney. It's always been a been confusing. Bear in mind that Sean O'Hagan is a very common name in some parts of the world. But this is just an excuse to say how much I liked Beet Maize and Corn. ... link

thank you for the clarification. and thank you for your funny conversations between winnie-the-puke, punklet and who knows. what about andy gill? do you know if the independent music critic = the gang of four guitar player? and thanks for the info on beet maize and corn. in comparison to hawaii how would you rate the new album? ... link

beet No, those two Andy Gills aren't the same either. Another common name I guess. There's even another British journalist with the same name who just calls himself A. A. Gill. Thinking about this kind of stuff makes my head hurt. I wouldn't say Beet Maize and Corn is as good as Hawaii - few albums are - but it's the best thing they've done in a long time. It's a lot quieter and more acoustic sounding than their recent stuff. ... link ... comment |
