it's a viewpoint (mirador) with a bar in the north-west of lanzarote. pointing to la graciosa, a small island about a kilometer west of lanzarote. the viewpoint is on top of the 500 meters high famara cliff. césar manrique was the architect. he is the guy we can say thank you to that the unique landscape of lanzarote did not get spoiled too much by uniform mass hotel drabness. he always tried to build within the natural conditions of the island. often using volcano bubbles or empty volcano channels. what is always amazing about his "buildings" is the calm and meditative, awesome atmosphere they emanate. by the way the visual music festival of lanzarote takes place in the cuevas de los verdes (a cave built by the volcano channel which goes through lanzarote) and the jameos del agua (an underground lake where the channel finishes near the east coast). it features ambientish music. brian eno used to be one of the organisers and played there several times. ... link ... comment |
