You'll never make it in this game if you don't. Sometimes you even have to get caught bluffing. It helps later if you got a winning hand and want some other players to think you might be bluffing."
Bob Dylan - Chronicles Volume One, page 47 link (no comments) ... comment [music, concerts] November 12, 2006 at 4:43:00 PM CET Nouvelle Vague @ Mousonturm I wouldn't have been to this concert if not for Catherine who insisted in going to see this French band covering late 70s and early 80s punk and new wave classics in an easy listening style. The cover drawing of their first album (which I bought) featuring a classy very French looking woman on a blue background has this fitting self-made appeal. Somehow it looks like a pirate copy which it is in a way. The Mousonturm in Frankfurt-Bornheim was amazingly packed. Apparently they have hit a nerve. Something they didn't expect themselves. Me neither. They are touring the world and have released a second album. The concert began with A Forest and Ever Fallen in Love. And I thought immediately that this bossanova transformation doesn't work in a live setting. I craved for the originals. But then it got better. And more varied. Especially the blues rock stuff like e.g. Human Fly was great. The Creole guitarist Gerald Toto was the star of the evening. What a pure voice he has. When he was humming it reminded me of Qawwali (Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan) somehow, there was this spiritual flow in the air, for a minute I thought I was in a church. I could see why Marina Celeste had been chosen for the tour out of the six or so female singers of Nouvelle Vague. Definitely not for her voice which was rather unremarkable. But with her high-heeled shoes she was able to dance in a very sensual unconventional way, later on she threw them away to go bananas on bare feet to the Dead Kennedys Too Drunk to Fuck which they played twice. I also liked their live version of Love Will Tear Us Apart. Unexpectedly it turned into an uptempo jazzy improvisation. link (no comments) ... comment November 11, 2006 at 6:45:00 PM CET [music, artists] November 11, 2006 at 6:45:00 PM CET Did you know that Thurston Moore played in a band before Sonic Youth? I didn't. Over at krlx radio there are five songs from The Coachmen's 1979 demo tape and some info on their history. Quite listenable garage rock à la Modern Lovers and VU with a dash of Talking Heads. Funky. link (no comments) ... comment [meta] November 11, 2006 at 12:46:00 AM CET gelegentlich mal sich selbst im film zu sehen, von außen, wär nicht schlecht. new perspectives on your outer self. mit dem ganzen high-tech scheiss heutzutage müsste es doch möglich sein, sich selbst als fremden zu sehen bevor man stirbt. vor den bekannten near death experiences (moody ca. 1980, ist das überhaupt noch state of the art?), wo man seinen körper verlässt und ihn von oben anglotzt etc. link (no comments) ... comment November 10, 2006 at 8:40:00 PM CET [don't ask me] November 10, 2006 at 8:40:00 PM CET busche, cicero, fest (kreuz), habermas plus rechtsanwalt. ihr habt (hattet) sie doch nicht alle. link (no comments) ... comment November 9, 2006 at 10:53:00 PM CET [geschlechterkrampf] November 9, 2006 at 10:53:00 PM CET Heute in der S-Bahn back from work auf der Sitzbank mir schräg gegenüber: eine junge Frau in ein Buch versenkt.
