I just registered to Dissensus, an interesting music forum which seems to be more focussed (but less active) than ILM. The contributions are more substantial with less rubbish posts. Like in the early ILM. Recent discussions of note: P.S. There are also discussions on thought, film, technology, literature, art, politics and nature going on but music is the most debated subject. link (no comments) ... comment [music, links] January 16, 2005 at 6:48:00 PM CET I Can't Live With Or Without You link (no comments) ... comment [music, links] December 7, 2004 at 8:27:00 PM CET link (no comments) ... comment [music, links] December 2, 2004 at 8:56:00 PM CET Go away you know it's good for you Silence is a rhythm two has three Magazine songs online. The first two tracks are great energetic post-punk with a penchant for melody by Howard Devoto (former Buzzcocks singer) and mates. There is a dramatic dark vibe to his voice which sometimes reminds me of Van Der Graaf Generator's Peter Hammill. The two Swell Maps tracks from an older entry are indeed sounding like Buzzcocks in a box of frogs. Music is a Virus shares Woolie Bullie by Pere Ubu and ponders about geography and personal relocation plans. The music is intense droney stuff with the fabulous lines Geography is a language they can't screw up.
The land & what we add to it cannot lie.
It's also like a mirror.
Reflected we see ourselves or we choose to turn away.
I think I have to dig deeper into this band. It's a good sign if I still contradict myself on a daily base. link (3 comments) ... comment [music, links] November 29, 2004 at 10:32:00 PM CET Sad but true: I think I lost the connection to today's music Kingblind offers solid write-ups on his top 16 albums of 2004 with one mp3 download for each of them. The only song which I loved was Pedro the Lion's Foregone Conclusions. American sadcore with a tired voice: Pavement meets Idaho. Elliott Smith was ok, Iron and Wine as well, The Hives were kind of fun but all the rest went straight into my virtual dustbin. link (no comments) ... comment [music, links] November 11, 2004 at 9:19:00 PM CET Chan song Cat Power, Speaking for Trees DVD: It's like she's busking for squirrels.

Six tracks are online. Awesome as always. link (4 comments) ... comment [music, links] November 8, 2004 at 10:58:00 PM CET Marcello offers 13 screenfulls on Leonard Cohen's latest Dear Heather. I have lost both of them. It's about time to find something. link (no comments) ... comment [music, links] November 4, 2004 at 6:52:00 PM CET Viennese electrickeries Stream 4 tracks of the new Radian album Juxtaposition over at the Euroranch. So much better than Fennesz pompous guitar glitch. This is what their label Thrill Jockey says about the recording process: The recording and editing of electronics on Juxtaposition took place in Radian's Vienna studio. The band collected and created recordings of different sound sources - mostly instruments like drums, bass, guitar vibraphone, and marimbaphone. They then recorded these instruments in unusual ways, 'microrecording' the sound sources through synthesizer patches. After recording and processing, Radian carefully arranged these electronics to work within their performances on live instruments, such as drums (Martin Brandlmayr), bass (John Norman) and synthesizers (Stefan Nemeth). Radian brought their complete electronic arrangement to Chicago’s Soma studios where John McEntire recorded the drums and bass. These parts were added to the electronics according to Radian’s arrangements.
