There is a book on free jazz buried in the archives of I Love Music. I started reading the 17 threads which have free jazz in the title. One longer than the other. Too much right now. link (no comments) ... comment [music, links] May 18, 2006 at 7:36:00 PM CEST link (no comments) ... comment [music, links] May 15, 2006 at 9:20:00 PM CEST An adequate adaptation For all you lovers of Adorno's Minima Moralia hiding in the corner: The WFMU blog offers the abbreviated five song punk version by Brian Joseph Davis I mentioned a while ago. It doesn't always please the ear but the original didn't aim at enchanting the reader neither. link (no comments) ... comment [music, links] May 12, 2006 at 11:23:00 PM CEST Short term mp3 loss has a great primer to post punk with 31 classics from one of the most exciting eras of rock music online. link (no comments) ... comment [music, links] May 2, 2006 at 9:33:00 PM CEST This is probably one of the most important rock’n’roll records that you will ever hear that you may have never heard. Released in 1980, it is a electric mainlined Velvet Underground groove pitched with dissonance and heavily influenced by Joy Division’s Love Will Tear Us Apart. Branca created a guitar symphony based on the algorthyms of Ian Curtis and in process created something much more ...
(via la blogothèque) The guitar sound in the beginning reminds me very much of Robert Fripp somehow. Which is then imprisoned in a loop. By the way great misspelling of algorithms by Poptones! Did they want to say algorhythms whatever that may mean? link (no comments) ... comment [music, links] March 13, 2006 at 9:26:00 PM CET The last album you'd like to listen to in your life link (one comment) ... comment [music, links] March 6, 2006 at 7:23:00 PM CET Each month (usually at new moon) the German singer/songwriter Tom Liwa offers a free mp3 here on his site. This month it is a live cover of a Dylan song: You're a Big Girl Now with Johannes Daerr on sax. Not sure if that change to explicit lyrics at one point is so great but still a charming imperfect lo-fi version with some phantastic lyrical sax lines. link (no comments) ... comment [music, links] February 24, 2006 at 9:13:00 PM CET otm. on the money. luv that expression. thank you ilm. link (no comments) ... comment [music, links] January 26, 2006 at 11:26:00 PM CET Moistworks, the supergroup of mp3 blogs with a penchant for some of the more obscure forgotten jewels of rock music had a post on 39 Clocks recently. I didn't know the band before, I swear, but when I heard the singer on the first song 78 Soldier Dead which is still online I knew that he was from Niedersachsen in the North of Germany (Hannover to be precise). His dead-pan vocal delivery with a strong German accent reminded me of Stephan Remmler somehow, the singer of Trio, the biggest of all the Neue Deutsche Welle bands. 39 Clocks have been compared to Velvet Underground and it makes sense. The beats are simple and trashy, they have the charm of a dead-end alley leading directly to the garbage bin. It was the early eighties where everything was possible. The best and the worst and the combination of the two. Which was the most exciting actually. link (no comments) ... comment [music, links] January 18, 2006 at 9:05:00 PM CET Two great songs (The Silver Jews' Horse Leg Swastikas and Cat Power's The Party) illustrated by paintings chez Sean. link (no comments) ... comment |
