new order very nice song, some obscure flipside by new order, one of her best works. i had it on a mixtape a long long time ago. a friend of mine made me a compilation last year to my 40th birthday, with a song from every year, 1963 to 2003, some hits most of them rather obscure, with large comments to every song. "1963" would have fitted in as well. ... link

hmmm, entweder ein numerologisches mysterium, oder sumner hat seinen vater erst an seinem siebten geburtstag kennengelernt, wiedergesehen und dieses treffen war eher enttäuschend bis tragisch ? anyway, man sollte kunst nicht aufs autobiografische / "authehtische" reduzieren, gerade in den achtzigern ging es ja auch darum, sich von sowas zu befreien. ob das ( also weg vom "authentischen" hin zum "inszenierten" ) nun eine erfreuliche entwicklung war, sei dahingestellt. ... link

funny according to this joy division page we are all wrong: And Sumner almost redeems himself as a lyricist in the final b-side '1963', where he proposes his personal theory that the assassination of John F. Kennedy was actually a bungled attempt by JFK to kill his wife so that he would be free to marry Marilyn Monroe. Sumner offers the suicide of Monroe as evidence of his theory.
this sounds weird though. firstly kennedy was killed in november 1963 and not in january. secondly monroe killed herself in august 1962. what's the point in marrying a dead person? ... link ... comment |
