[music, artists] November 3, 2006 at 12:08:00 AM CET The latest Yo La Tengo album is always the best. Any other band where this is true? I doubt it.

can you tell me about that show, if you go? they play heidelberg which is 100 km from here a week later and i am still undecided if i will go. their last album underwhelmed me in the beginning when i listened to the cut-off mp3s but yesterday after the lambchop concert which was so and so i had the impression that it was perfect. they continue to surprise me. their music is so varied. and so full of love for music. what i really like about the album is that all three of them are singing lead. it is not too long at all (that's what i thought until yesterday). ... link

sure, i'll let you know. also, i agree with all your comments on the album, esp. with regards to 'love for music' - the album sounds joyous all the way through. i hope their droney songs will shine bright next week. ... link

so sorry ...completely forgot to come back here after the concert. I blame the new job. Did you decide to go? The Utrecht gig was great, much better than I'd hoped for. Like the album, the concert was bookended by long songs. For some reason, I didn't have the patience for these longer jams - contrary to how I normally feel towards these things. I blame Ira Kaplan's guitar playing - it looked really forced and masturbatory. Quite tiresome. On the other hand, I found they really excelled at the shorter, sweeter songs. The funniest thing however was the fact that I've always, in the entire 15 year period I know the band, taken Ira Kaplan for James McNew and vice versa! I've never seen a YLT video - just pictures without name captions - and somehow I've always assumed that the big guy was Kaplan. Strange to find out I'd been wrong all those years. ... link

those long guitar jams by ira are a speciality of his. when i saw them first in the summer of 1997 in berlin prenzlauer berg where they played a lot off electropura they were fantastic. but i can see that the new album doesn't work so well live. anyways i didn't go. i am a little bit tired of rock music in general again. not sure if that will change in the near future. thanks for your account. ... link ... comment |
