[music, concerts] May 3, 2006 at 7:43:00 AM CEST TWP in Frankfurt Friday night I will be in the Cooky's. David Gedge and his good old band The Wedding Present will be there. They have reformed after that rather unsuccessful Cinerama interlude. For the first time after ten years or so I listened to Hitparade 1 with the six January to June singles from 1992. They still sound terrific. His deep throaty voice, those noisy guitars, the straightforward songwriting. Indie rock'n'roll from Leeds in the vein of Velvet Underground with a dash of The Buzzcocks and The Fall.

it's a little bit a nostalgic thing for me to see them again. around 1992/93 i saw them in nancy. and already at that point of time i already had moved away from that kind of music and was disappointed by their pretty rough and seemingly uninspired performance. i loved seamonsters which was even before that. their prime time is over, apparently there are lots of tickets left, they seem to be slightly forgotten around here. the twentysomethings who would go to these concerts don't know them, i guess as they had already disbanded when those people started getting into indie. whatever their concerts are apparently still great. i am not expecting too much, gedge's voice and the noisy guitars are something i am looking forward to though. ... link ... comment |
