[music, songs] December 14, 2005 at 8:02:00 PM CET History repeating itself Buffalo Springfield - For What It's Worth This was released in January 1967 and I guess it got a lot of airplay in the summer of love as it was Buffalo Springfield's biggest hit charting on #7 in the US. A song by Stephen Stills which anticipates the retreat of the super power from Vietnam. It was supposed to be about young draftees being burned in the Far East but in the end it was about the police overreacting to protests against the war in LA. Something which is probably bound to happen soon again. Stills pleasant baritone makes the message clearer than clear. We better stop,

yeah, it's a great song. unfortunately, it's the only thing by this band that i actively like. i own a cheapy best of which never did anything for me but i got the box set hoping that it'd change my mind. but it left me cold. which is weird, since i find young and stills' solo stuff so compelling. ... link

i own a dull best of as well which doesn't even feature that song! the only other songs i know and like by them are by neil young. basically mr soul and expecting to fly. i am intrigued about the old neil young song clancy can't even sing which i never heard. thanks for telling me about the box set. i was thinking of purchasing it. i listened to for what it's worth for the 1st time last week in my lunch break walking around the westend. i found it totally enthralling. what a classic song which hasn't aged a millisecond. ... link ... comment |
