Hahaha - you left out all of the ones I loved that year, except Yo La Tengo. That said, i don't know how I still feel about this list: ... link

not really my cuppa tea your list coldplay (really?) and sigur ros. that's funny. one of my first reviews ever on the internet at amazon.de was about that sigur ros album. it was a mockery. here it is. in german unfortunately. i thought i had translated it somewhere. maybe on the old blog... ... link

I will go to bat for all three of those #1s, although Kid A is definitely my favourite (now). And Coldplay's "Parachutes" is fantastic, simple and beautiful, just a dumb blast of joy, and I think the people who hate it either don't like the genre or are kidding themselves. By no means am I a fan of the band nowadays, though. (See here: www.saidthegramophone.com , and for an earlier perspective, here: www.tangmonkey.com ) ... link ... comment

an easy one for me. at this stage i was completely taken over by aimee mann's voice and purchased bach#2 through her website. probably her best?? i dunno. others i like from that year: Tobin, Amon - Supermodified: like autechre in impact for me - difficult, hard edged electronics Roberts, Dean - And The Black Moths Play The Grand Cinema : an acquired taste, "talk talk" muffled even further E.S.T. - Good Morning Susie Soho: only heard this this week - more lovely piano jazz Blegvad, Peter - Hangman's Hill: the end of the road with my love of bleggers Clinic - Internal Wrangler: still a shock even if they onyl have one song Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun: the pinnacle of their kosmische phase XTC - Wasp Star (Apple Venus Volume 2): surprisingly wonderfull batch of pop tunes Magnetic Fields, The - 69 Love Songs: patchy but still quite lovely Boards of Canada - A Beautiful Place in the Country: sticking to the pattern but still making it sound great Radiohead - KID A: love it, hate it sort thing ... link

that was my first aimee mann and i really loved it and still do. but i think she won't be my #1. we'll see. for a start ryan adams and david thomas were rather disappointing. i have the feeling that i am enjoying pop music less and less every day. i hope i'll make it until the end of my 40 albums... kid a i hated a little less than ok computer (that really is a kind of pink floyd for the 90s). i think i only lost two cds in my life. one was kid a. before amnesiac i found radiohead totally uninteresting. come to think of it after probably as well. ... link ... comment

2000 moloko - things to make and do my favourite one of 2000, I think. (second thought: you probably hate alternative suggestions, so sorry, of the above, I'll vote for... lambchop.) ... link

every suggestion is welcome here. but unfortunately i don't have the slightest clue what kind of music moloko make. i have heard the name but can't associate it to anything. some indie rock? what i'd really like to know from people how many of the albums of my lists they know. i'd imagine there'd be very few people who know all albums of one year's list. but maybe i am totally wrong. ... link
