i am more than surprised, sean. esp. about your honesty. i guess it will be decided between the two must-listens another green world (which is quite possibly the most original musical creation of all-time), horses and another album i do not know yet.

i really like just about all of these! so it's going to come down to long range effects, historical importance, etc, i suppose. will think on it.

and i too have to go with patti smith. that album meant an enormous amount to me at the time and the clarity of purpose still resonates so much it makes me tingle. and that's despite there being two great albums by two of my favourite artists - eno and wyatt in the list. others i also adore:

Slapp Happy / Henry Cow - Desperate Straights : i know you're not enamoured but this is still a top 10 for me
Henry Cow - In Praise Of Learning : difficult polemic but redolent of the mid 70s
Fripp and Eno - Evening Star : more atmospheric than their 1st
Glass, Philip - Music In Twelve Parts : a bit too metronomic but the early sections are as good as he gets
Harmonia - Deluxe : up there with the very best of music made in the 70s
Plastic People of the Universe, The - Egon Bondy's Happy Hearts Club Banned : wonderfull RIO style prog rock
Bryars, Gavin - Sinking of the Titanic : stately and gorgeous
Hatfield and the North - Rotters Club, The : precise, tinkily jazz prog
Steely Dan - Katy Lied : another of their better albums
