another year i feel no real connection with music wise - even after all this time i have still only managed to collect 12 records from this year.
3 i did like a lot were : nonesuch by xtc, scritti politti's cupid and psyche 85 and eden by everything but the girl ... link ... comment

I’ve read (I think it was on ILM) several people claiming that ’85 was a very bad year musically. Not true of course, each year has its yield of gems, and so does 1985.
Although I don’t own it and haven’t heard it since, Brothers in Arms brings back great memories, even though I didn’t even like the Dire Straits. Not to suggest that you’ve failed to include the following, but just to mention a few albums from that year that I enjoy(ed) quite a lot: The Cult, Love Prince, Around the World in a Day D.A.F., Alles Ist Gut The Replacements, Tim Talking Heads, Little Creatures (probably the record I listened to the most in that year) Zani Diabata & the Super Djata band, Super Djata. A wonderful album from Mali, full of joy and awesome guitar! If you’re looking for something that’s not "conventional" (though it's by no means unconnected to western music I guess) you might give this one a try. Out of your list, I’ve chosen Wildweed. I really love the man, the voice, his guitarplaying, the tragic. Too bad I never saw him live, "the Elvis from Hell"... ... link ... comment |
